Dynamo Torch!

This is high voltage inspiration and fun! Dynamo Torch is an amazing green-energy science kit from 4M Kidz Labs. Build your own hand-operated generator and learn how hand-motion is transferred into electrical energy. The invention of the dynamo was the result of Michael Faraday's work on electromagnetism in the early 1800s. He coined the word "electromagnetism" because his work showed that electricity and magnetism were not separate things as had previously been supposed. So what exactly is a dynamo? A dynamo is a generator consisting of a metal coil that rotates between the poles of an electromagnet causing a current to flow to power stuff. Did you know Earth is a "self-exciting" dynamo?

In this science kit, you turn the simple toy motor to become a generator which then converts hand motion to electric energy which powers a light bulb. This science kit is truly amazing and is a great idea for a science fair project. The generator could be used as an awesome emergency torch out of a recycled plastic bottle. Simply remove the original transparent torch cover, screw the plastic bottle to the casing, and you've got a super cool dynamo torch! A great intro into alternative energy, mechanics, and electromagnetism!
